How to Update Sections

Iconic Sections regularly improves and updates its sections — fixing issues, adding new customization options, and enhancing performance. When an update is available for a section you have installed, you can apply it quickly from My Library.

How to Check for Updates

In the Iconic Sections app, click My Library in the left sidebar.
Go to the Sections tab.
Look for sections marked with an "Update available" indicator — this appears as a badge or label on the section card.

If no sections show an update indicator, all your installed sections are already on the latest version.

How to Apply an Update

In My Library > Sections, find the section with the update indicator.
Click the Update button on that section card.
A dropdown appears — select the theme you want to update the section on.
Confirm the update.

The updated version replaces the previous one in your selected theme. The process takes a few seconds.

If you have the same section installed on multiple themes, you need to update it on each theme separately.

What Happens to Your Customizations

Updating a section does not reset the content you have entered in the Theme Editor. Your text, images, colors, and layout settings are preserved through the update wherever possible.

If you or a developer have made direct edits to a section's theme files (the .liquid or .json files) rather than using the Theme Editor controls, those manual changes may be overwritten by an update. In that case, you will need to re-apply any custom file edits after updating.

Pro Plan and New Section Access

If you are on the Pro plan, you have access to all sections in the library — including any new sections added after your subscription started. New sections appear in the library automatically and do not require a separate update step; you simply install them like any other section.

Updates to existing sections are a separate process from new section releases. Both are included in the Pro plan at no extra charge.

Check My Library periodically to stay current. Updated sections often include new customization options or improved compatibility with recent Shopify theme updates.

Do I get notified when a section update is available?

At this time, update notifications are visible inside the app in My Library rather than sent as email alerts. It is a good habit to visit My Library occasionally to check for available updates, especially after Shopify releases theme-related platform changes.

What happens if I do not update a section?

Your section continues to work normally on the version that is installed. Updates are not mandatory. However, keeping sections updated ensures you benefit from the latest improvements, bug fixes, and compatibility enhancements. If a section ever stops working correctly after a Shopify update, applying the latest version from Iconic Sections is often the first step to resolving it.

Will updating a section break my store or page layout?

In the vast majority of cases, no. Section updates are designed to be backward-compatible, meaning your existing settings and content carry over without issues. However, if a major structural change is made to a section, some settings may need to be reconfigured. The Iconic Sections team notes significant changes in release communications. If you are concerned, duplicate your theme first and test the update on the duplicate before applying it to your live theme.
