Theme Compatibility
Iconic Sections is designed to work with the vast majority of Shopify themes. This guide explains what is supported, what limitations exist for older themes, and how to check your theme's compatibility.
Online Store 2.0 Themes (Fully Compatible)
All Online Store 2.0 (OS 2.0) themes are fully supported. OS 2.0 is Shopify's theme architecture introduced in 2021. It powers all modern Shopify themes, including:
Dawn — Shopify's free default theme
Sense, Craft, Crave, Origin, Refresh, Colorblock — other free Shopify themes
Most premium themes released after 2021 from the Shopify Theme Store
OS 2.0 themes support Shopify's full App Blocks system, which is how Iconic Sections delivers both sections and Conversion Blocks.
Third-Party Themes
Most third-party themes from the Shopify Theme Store are compatible with Iconic Sections. Premium themes from popular developers generally follow Shopify's standards and work without any issues.
If you use a premium third-party theme and experience a problem, the most common cause is the App Embed not being enabled for that specific theme.
Legacy Themes (Pre-2021)
Legacy themes — themes built before Shopify's OS 2.0 update — are compatible with Iconic Sections with one known limitation:
Sections cannot be added to product pages on legacy themes.
This is a Shopify platform limitation, not a restriction imposed by Iconic Sections. Legacy themes use an older product page architecture that does not support Shopify's App Blocks. All other page types (homepage, collection pages, custom pages, etc.) work normally with legacy themes.
If you are on a legacy theme and need product page enhancements, two options are available:
Upgrade to an OS 2.0 theme — this removes the limitation entirely and gives you full compatibility
Use Conversion Blocks (Pro plan) — Conversion Blocks are specifically designed for product pages and use a different integration method that works with more theme types
How to Check If Your Theme Is OS 2.0
Option 1: In Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes. Click Customize on your active theme. If you can navigate to any page (product, collection, homepage) from within the Theme Editor and add sections to each, your theme is OS 2.0.
Option 2: Check the theme's listing in the Shopify Theme Store. OS 2.0 themes are labeled with "Sections everywhere" in their feature list.
Option 3: Look at when your theme was last updated. Themes with major updates after mid-2021 are almost certainly OS 2.0.
Custom Themes
If you have a custom-built theme (developed by an agency or freelancer), compatibility depends on whether the theme was built to Shopify's standard section schema guidelines. Most properly built custom themes are compatible. If you experience issues with a custom theme, contact the Iconic Sections support team at arhamwebworks.com/contact with your store URL for assistance.
